Originally built in the 1860s as the private home of Henry Schweck, the estate once stretched far beyond its current footprint. Local accounts note that the original land extended into what is now East Harbor State Park and reached all the way to the shores of Lake Erie, marking it as a centerpiece of early Marblehead settlement.

Early 1900s – A Place of Care & Community

By the early 20th century, the home transitioned from private residence to healthcare refuge, operating as a nursing home during a time when care facilities were scarce along the Lake Erie shoreline. Though its function changed, its elegance and structural beauty remained intact, continuing to serve the community in a new way.

1985 – The Lehman Family & The Birth of a Bed & Breakfast

In 1985, the property changed hands to the Lehman family, who recognized its potential as a hospitality destination. They converted the historic home into a bed and breakfast, preserving its architectural charm while opening its doors to travelers, boaters, lighthouse visitors, and Lake Erie vacationers. This change marked the official beginning of The Victorian Inn as a cherished lodging choice in Marblehead, Ohio.

1997 – The Duez Era: Expansion & Modernization

The Duez family purchased the Inn in 1997 and completed important renovations that elevated guest comfort, including converting all former shared bathrooms into private ensuite bathrooms for every guestroom—an upgrade that significantly improved the lodging experience while respecting the property’s historic integrity. Additionally, Ann Duez operated a gift shop onsite, offering artisan goods and local treasures to guests and community members.

2024 – Shelley & Jeff Morgan: A Full Refresh & New Chapter

In 2024, ownership passed to Shelley and Jeff Morgan, who began a thoughtful, room-by-room revitalization while honoring the Inn’s 160-year legacy. Without disrupting existing bookings, they completed major upgrades, including:

• Refreshed and reappointed the Formal Dining Room and Living Room, creating the welcoming spaces guests enjoy today

• Improved the shared kitchenette to allow for a smoother and more efficient weekday continental breakfast experience

• Updated the main kitchen to better support both guest needs and full-Inn rentals

• Fully renovated the Captain’s Quarters Suite (formerly the Innkeeper’s residence) with upgraded finishes, furnishings, and guest comforts

• Installed luxury mattresses in every guestroom

• Added plush spa-quality towels, crisp linens, and cozy duvets for an elevated overnight stay

• Increased in-room seating and comfort details throughout all accommodations

• Added large flat-screen televisions in every guestroom

• Refined and refreshed décor with curated Victorian-inspired touches, blending historic charm with modern comfort

• Introduced multiple new coffee and refreshment stations throughout the Inn for 24/7 guest convenience

• Expanded outdoor relaxation spaces, including garden seating areas, porch enjoyment zones, and quiet corners for morning coffee or evening wine

The Morgans also transformed the former gift shop into a private massage therapy room, now offering $99 one-hour relaxation massages provided by a licensed massage therapist, exclusively for overnight guests.

The Ever After Arbor – A Ceremony Setting Like No Other

A signature addition under the Morgan family, The Ever After Arbor, was created for intimate weddings, vow renewals, elopements, anniversaries, shower events, and romantic celebrations.

Set among willow trees, gardens, and Victorian charm, the Arbor features:
